West Cowra Watercourse Flood Study & Drainage Strategy

The site is located in West Cowra with the watercourse traversing from the Blayney-Demondrille Railway in the south to Grenfell Road in the north. The flooding investigation has determined the existing 5 and 100 year ARI flood extents for the watercourse north of the Blayney - Demondrille railway in West Cowra. Flood extents are controlled by a series of elevated roadway embankments that cross the watercourse. Each of these road crossings have culverts that are capable of conveying flows much less than the 1 year ARI peak flows from the catchment. As a result, in more severe storms, water overtops each of the road embankments the crest level of each dictates the corresponding flood levels upstream.
