Wee Waa Levee Visual Audit

Wee Waa is located approximately 30 km West of Narrabri and approximately 430 km Northwest of Sydney. The township is situated on the floodplain of the Namoi River. The Wee Waa levee is a ring levee system, owned and maintained by Narrabri Shire Council, surrounding the township and has a total length of approximately 8.6 km. Its purpose is to protect residential and commercial areas at Wee Waa situated adjacent to the Namoi River and includes flood protection for the Water Supply Bores and Reservoirs, Sewerage Pump Stations and the town Hospital. This visual levee audit is designed to provide the following:

  • Whether the levee is being maintained to best practice in accordance with an appropriate Operation and Maintenance Manual / Asset Management Plan or other appropriate maintenance schedule;
  • Whether the levee has deteriorated since previous audits / inspections if any;
  • Specific issues on the levee which need to be addressed.
  • If additional investigations are required for issues found in the audit which may affect the condition and adequacy of the levee.

Notwithstanding this general audit finding, it is recommended that regular inspections be carried out.
