Sydney Region - Flooding Compendium of Press Reportage

"Early on Tuesday 5th August an intense secondary low-pressure system developed unexpectedly near Newcastle. The centre of the system hovered above the Central Coast for most of the day before turning inland on Wednesday and dissipating. Laying directly under the zone where rain clouds converged most tightly was the Sydney Metropolitan Region and strong winds and unusually heavy rainfall resulted.

Much disruption and damage resulted from the flooding and the true cost to the community may never be known.

This compendium is comprised of the relevant reportage from the national, state and local press between the 4th and 22nd August, 1986."
