Railway Street, Corrimal - Investigation and Design of Channel Improvements

The objective of this report is to address the objectives of the project brief, and document methodology and findings of the project in sufficient detail to support the outcomes presented. This includes the following:

  • Summarise the investigation and outcomes of the hydraulic modelling of potential flood mitigation options.
  • Identify any permanent or temporary structures or works on site that may have adverse impacts on flood behaviour in the study area, and assess and address these impacts.
  • Investigate any constraints to the project including potential conflicts between the proposed works and any existing services/site features and access for construction purposes.
  • Based on investigations, make a recommendation of preferred works which best satisfies the project objectives.
  • For the recommended options, prepare concept design documentation.

The seven options for reducing flood risk investigated as part of this study include:

  1. Clearing of dense vegetation and rehabilitation;
  2. Enlargement of the waterway area and rehabilitation;
  3. Upgrading of the Armco culverts beneath the creek crossing within the Coke works;
  4. Removal of the creek crossing within the Coke works completely;
  5. Installation of debris control structures at the Armco culverts;
  6. Lowering the level of the spillway; and
  7. Combination of Option 1 and Option 4 (this combination was chosen based on its effectiveness following the modelling of the options individually).
