NSW North Coast - Flood Summary March 2006

This summary presents time series water level and rainfall recorded during the March 2006 flood events in the Richmond, Bellinger and Nambucca river systems. The Richmond basin experienced a peak water level that could be classified as a minor flood, specifically at the site of Coraki. The Bellinger basin experienced what can be classified as a major flood at the Thora site and a moderate flood at the Bellingen Bridge site. The Nambucca basin also experienced a minor flood at the Utungun Taylors Arm gauge.

The data was collected via a network of water level gauging stations and pluviometers which are part of a larger network of environmental data monitoring equipment operated by Manly Hydraulics Laboratory (MHL). The combination of water level and rainfall data provides time-series schematics of rainfall intensity and its resulting water level rise.

Data collection, storage and presentation was undertaken by the NSW Department of Commerce's Manly Hydraulics Laboratory for the Department of Natural Resources.

All data is retained on Manly Hydraulics Laboratory's computer system and may be inspected upon application to the Environmental Data Programs Manager.
