NSW Floodplain Risk Management Database Scoping Study

The Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) is considering the development of a database containing information relating to floodplain risk management (FRM) to fulfill a number of needs that are apparent in both local and state government and in consideration of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Review into Natural Disaster Relief Arrangements (NDRA).

A flood database could provide for limited aggregation of local government data on flood risk for use at a state and national level. Whilst the degree of data to be aggregated is yet to be broadly discussed with local government, this would be expected to focus on general information on the degree of risk exposure and the benefits of specific mitigation measures, where proposed or implemented, i.e. practical data on flood risk and its management. This report documents the findings of the first stage of scoping and feasibility for the establishment of such a database.
