River Murray - Tocumwal to Echuca - Restoration of Natural Levees and Regulators - Millewa/Barmah Red Gum Forests

"This report provides information on the restoration of natural levees and regulators for the Millewa/Barmah red gum forests. The report reviews investigations and corresponding works undertaken from 1980 to 1984. The outcomes are summarized below:

  • The requirement for conveying 11 000 ML/day below Tocumwal has been successfully met by the stream clearing programme, without the need for further structural works.
  • The capacity of the river channel through the choke may have been increased sufficiently to enable regulated flow In excess of 11 000 ML/day below Tocumwal to be passed through the forest without the need for additional structural works'
  • It is feasible to undertake a programme of. minor structural works within the forest to further Increase the capacity of the river through the choke."
