Lower Myall River and Myall Lakes Flood Study

The Lower Myall River catchment encompasses an area of approximately 900 square kilometres and is located north of Port Stephens in the Great Lakes Council Local Government Area. The Myall Lakes comprise a series of three interconnected water bodies lying between the coastal sand barriers and the hills of Bulahdelah, north of Port Stephens. The study is being prepared to meet the objectives of the NSW State Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy. This project has been conducted under the State Assisted Floodplain Management Program and received State financial support provided by the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH). It is being undertaken in a staged approach as outlined below:

  1. Collection, Compilation and Review of Available Information;
  2. Acquisition of Additional Data
  3. Develop Hydrologic and Hydraulic Models;
  4. Calibration and Verification of Models
  5. Design Flood Assessment including Climate Change Analysis; and
  6. Final Reporting including Flood Hazard Assessment and Mapping.
