The Bellinger and Kalang Rivers combine to flow into the Pacific Ocean approximately 25 kilometres south of Coffs Harbour in New South Wales at the town of Urunga.

In June 1986, Cameron McNamara Pty. Ltd. were commissioned by the Department to:-

• undertake a comprehensive review of available data
• to determine flood profiles along the Lower Bellinger and Kalang Rivers for the once in 20, 50 and 100 year floods.

The Study Area is defined as the Bellinger River and associated floodplain from the ocean entrance to the township of Bellingen, including connecting arms and major tributaries, and the Kalang River and floodplain, downstream of Picket Hill Creek. This volume has been prepared as part of the review of available data and aims to present such data and any conclusions drawn for future reference.
