Lachlan River - Downstream of Southern Cross Breakout Between Between "Ulmara" and "Sandhills" - Review of Floodplain Development Guidelines

Landholders on the northern bank of the Lachlan River in the vicinity of the Southern Cross breakout between "Ulmarra" and "Sandhills" requested a review of the floodplain guidelines which were prepared by the Department of Water Resources in 1979 and subsequently modified in 1980.

The request for a review was a direct result of the severity of flooding experienced to their properties during the August 1990 flood.

The portion of the Lachlan River Floodplain Scheme referred to in this report is situated approximately 16 km upstream of Forbes.

This report provides revised levee height guidelines for the Lachlan River fioodway within the above study area based on data collected from the recent floods. The report also outlines the effects that selected earthworks, which are situated within the contained floodway, have on flood flows.

The affected landholders will be given an opportunity to discuss any contentious issues relating to the findings in this report.
