Jemalong and Wyldes Plains Irrigation District - Land and Water Management Plan - Floodway Management Study

This study examines the role of the Jemalong - Lake Cowal Floodway with respect to the major problems confronting the District and proposes management measures for inclusion in the Land and Water Management Plan (LWMP) for the Jemalong and Wyldes Plans District.

The aim of the LWMP is to address the impacts of district activities on groundwater and the surrounding lands to ensure long-term environmental and agronomic sustainability.

The main purposes of the Floodway Management Study are to;

  1. quantify the actual physical effects of the Floodway and in particular the levees which mostly define it;
  2. recommend where appropriate the modification, relocation and/or removal of the levees to minimise any identified adverse effects of the Floodway; and/or
  3. recommend such other management measures for the Floodway as may be required to modify those effects or provide some other significant regional benefit.
