Hydraulic Assessment of Kerr's Levee

The Murray Region engaged River Management Branch to undertake an hydraulic study of a levee constructed on the property "Billabidgee" some 16 kilometres south-east of Deniliquin.

The levee constructed by J.P. and M. Kerr is located In the TuppaI-Bullatale Creeks system for which floodplain development guidelines were issued in July 1978.

The present alignment of the levee has drawn a number of objections from surrounding properties; specific concern being the diversion of flood flows onto adjacent properties due to the encroachment of a natural floodway and subsequent increased flood levels.

As part of this study a computer-based hydraulic model was developed and calibrated for some 50 square kilometres of the Tuppal and Taylors Creeks floodplain. The model was used to quantify the efifects on flood behaviour of the current levee alignment and various mitigation options involving modifications to the levee alignment.
