Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan

Griffith Floodplain Risk Management Study & Draft Floodplain Risk Management Plan

Griffith is an important regional and agricultural centre in south-western NSW. The City is located approximately 150 km north-west of Wagga Wagga in the heart of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. The central business district and urban areas lie at the foot of the McPhersons Range and comprise a thriving business district surrounded by a number of smaller villages including Beelbangera, Bilbul, Hanwood, Yoogali and Yenda.

The primary objective of the project is to undertake investigations that will enable Council to formulate a Floodplain Management Plan for the area. The Plan is to be based on a range of strategies and mitigation measures that address the existing, future and continuing flood problems, in accordance with the NSW Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy. The strategies that have been developed as part of the study are to provide a mechanism for optimally managing the full risk of flooding and the associated flood hazards.
