Goulburn Flood Study Report

Goulburn is a major urban centre with a population of 24,000. It is an important service town for the surrounding sheep and cattle grazing district. The Wollondilly River passes through the northern section of Goulburn and Mulwaree Ponds passes through the eastern section - the confluence of the two streams being 2 km north-east of the city. The areas adjacent to these streams have been repeatedly affected by flooding for many years. There have not been any previous studies undertaken to determine the extent of the flooding problem in Goulburn. This study provides detailed flood information to enable Council to implement an interim flood management policy, and to allow the formulation of a floodplain management plan to reduce the risk to life and property in the city.
