Forbes Flood Study - Preliminary Information Pack

Sinclair Knight Merz was engaged by Forbes Shire Council to update and extend the Forbes Flood Study and make recommendations where necessary to update the Forbes Floodplain Management Plan (FMP).

This project builds on work conducted by the then Water Resources Commission (WRC) in 1992 and Sinclair Knight in 1994.

This project has revisited some of the key elements of the 1994 flood study and collected more information with which to provide a more comprehensive analysis.

Key elements of this study include:

  • Development of a completely restructured computer flood model,
  • An extensive hydrological review,
  • Compilation of additional survey,
  • Flood levels estimates,
  • Assessment of the implications of the recently released Floodplain Management Manual (2001),
  • Flood hazard categorisations.

This document provides a summary of project work and results developed thus far and is a precursor to the draft report due for release in early October, 2001.
