East Hills/Campbelltown Railway Flood Model Study - Georges River Crossing At East Hills

The State Rail Authority's planned construction of the East Hills - Campbelltown Railway includes a crossing of the Georges River at East Hills. The Public Works Department's Manly Hydraulics Laboratory was commissioned by consultants Maunsell and Partners to determine the afflux caused by the planned bridge structure during a I in 100 year flood, using an existing model of the Georges River at East Hills.

The aim of this investigation was to use the Laboratory's existing physical model of the Georges River to assist in determining bridge pier alignment and verify whether afflux was likely to be a problem. If the model piers appeared to cause considerable afflux, then a more accurate method of afflux determination would be required.
