Cootamundra Lake - Options and Concept Design Study

The aim of this study was to examine options for the construction of a lake at the junction of Muttama and Jindalee Creeks upstream of Cootamundra. The lake design was to provide flood mitigation, water storage and recreation benefits. To achieve this aim the following tasks were completed:

  • Definition of the proposed lake's role, specifically flood mitigation, water supply and recreation;
  • Assessment of the flood mitigation potential of the lake;
  • Assessment of the catchment yield based on the lake receiving inflow from both Muttama Creek and Jindalee Creek;
  • Quantification of the water supply reliability based on meeting water demands for various irrigation areas and evaporative losses;
  • Estimation of lake construction costs;
  • Selection of the preferred lake configuration; and
  • Concept design of the final lake configuration.
