Floodplain Risk Management Study

Castlereagh Valley - Flood Plain Management Studies

In January 1981, Rankine and Hill Pty. Ltd. were engaged to undertake the study for the Castlereagh Valley and a draft of this report was completed in April 1982.

The terms of reference required that the study should encompass the following aspects of the flooding problem encountered in the study area:

  • mapping of flood affected land throughout the whole valley.
  • mapping of landuse and environmental features within flood affected areas.
  • assessment of the need for stream channel works.
  • flood plain management related to flood affected urban centres.
  • flood plain management related to flood affected rural lands.
  • flood hazard to communications.
  • identification of environmental factors to be considered in flood plain management.
  • flood warning systems.
  • preparation of a programme of works and measures with indicative cost estimates and assessment of relative merit.
