Camden Flood Study Report

Camden, with a population of approximately 15,000, is a major urban centre servicing the surrounding rural area. tt is anticipated that the area will face substantial growth in the near future due to its proximity to a major Sydney growth area. The town is bounded to the east and north by the Nepean River and to the west by Matahli Creek, so that during major flooding it is virtually surrounded by water. While most of Camden is not flooded, there are some developed areas which are inundated during floods. A large number of residential and commercial premises to the north of Argyle Street are in one such area. The pressure for growth in Camden End the position of the town in relation to flooding have made the consideration of flooding and possible mitigation measures an important component of planning for the town.
