Cabbage Tree Creek - Flood Study July 1987

Cabbage Tree Creek, with a catchment area of 10.4km2, is situated on the coastal plain just north of the central business area of Wollongong City. It shares a common outlet to the ocean with Fairy Creek.

This study was carried out for Wollongong City Council, to define the nature of flooding under the existing catchment conditions.

The study area extends from the confluence with Fairy Creek up to the limit of existing residential development at Chalmers Street, a distance of some 7 km.

The study was carried out using computer based mathematical models. A "RORB" hydrologic model was used to convert rainfall information to streamflows and a backwater ( "BACWAT" ) hydraulic model was then used to convert the streamflows to flood levels.
