A Review of Flooding Byarong Creek between Koloona Ave & Langson Ave - Vol 2

In late 1992, Miltonbrook Developments purchased a parcel of land at Figtree adjacent to Byarong Creek from Property Services. This parcel, comprising Lot 1 in DP509144, Lot 32 in DP250660, Lot 120 in DP588241 and Lot 75 in DP31111, had earlier been the site of a proposed school, but latterly declared surplus to the requirements of the Department of Education .

This site is, for the most part, located on the flood plain of Byarong Creek. Both local knowledge and earlier studies of flooding in Byarong Creek suggest that the site is subject to inundation, in part, by floodwater at relatively frequent intervals.

At the request of Miltonbrook Developments, Forbes Rigby were requested to investigate and report on the extent to which the site is presently affected by flooding and to prepare outline recommendations for realignment and stabilisation works in the creek, consistent with the development of a stable interface between the creek and proposed residential development of the site.

The primary objectives of this study are then:

  • The collection, collation and analysis of data pertaining to the magnitude of flood flows through the site
  • The collection, collation and analysis of data pertaining to the profile of flood flows through the site
  • The integration of the southern creek bank into the proposed development in such a way as to stabilise the toe of the bank, stabilise the bank material, improve the stream hydraulics, provide tor the adjacent cycleway and improve the appearance of the bank
