Floodplain Risk Management Study

Bellingen Shire Council: Floodplain Risk Management Study (Stage 2 - An Assessment of Floodplain Management Options and Strategies)

Bellingen Shire Council through its Floodplain Risk Management Committee has prepared a Floodplain Risk Management Study in accordance with the NSW Governments Flood Prone Land Policy and the guidelines of the Floodplain Management Manual, 2001. The Study was commenced under the Governments 1984 Flood Policy and later expanded to include consideration of changes in emphasis and terminology in the 2001 Policy. This has included consideration of the Probable Maximum Flood and major drainage issues (see Section 2). This report documents Stage 2 of the Floodplain Risk Management Study and comprises detailed consideration of viable floodplain risk management options.

The Main Study area comprises the lower reaches of the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers where a detailed Flood Study has been undertaken. The Study area was later extended to include consideration of all other flood prone land in the Shire (referred to as the Additional Study Areas).
