Bellingen Shire Council - Floodplain Risk Management Plan

Bellingen Shire Council, through its Floodplain Risk Management Committee, has prepared a draft Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan. The Study and Plan have been prepared in accordance with the NSW Governments Flood Prone Land Policy and the guidelines of the Floodplain Management Manual, 2001. The primary objective of the Government's Policy is to reduce the impact of flooding and flood liability on individual owners and occupiers of flood prone property and to reduce private and public losses resulting from floods.

The Main Study Area incorporates the floodplain from Bellingen to the ocean on the Bellinger River and downstream of Picket Hill Creek on the Kalang River where a detailed Flood Study has been prepared. The Study Area was later extended to identify appropriate management principles, policies and strategies for other areas of the Shire (Additional Study Areas) where detailed flood data is not available.
