Balranald and Euston Flood Protection Works

The Balranald Shire Council has engaged SKM to investigate flood protection for the towns of Balranald and Euston. This report presents the key outcomes of the work undertaken to date for the Balranald levee system, which have been used as the basis for the concept design.

A number of local and regional issues have been examined throughout this project. The key issues (and actions taken) are:

  • Aesthetic considerations required along river frontage between Ballendalla Street and Moa Street. Outcome: Examination of bank batters, height, landscaping and aesthetics required.
  • Landowner concerns over the construction of a levee in Mr Zaffina's property (RD 4,753 - 5,241), Outcome: Alignment pegged behind house - levee height required (approx. 2-3 metres).
  • Requirement for vehicle access along the levee. Outcome: Vehicle access to be provided unless the levee is situated adjacent to the road.
  • Protection of the caravan park. Outcome: Not required.
  • Appropriate freeboard allowance. Outcome: Review required.
