Flood study

Ardlethan Flood Study

The township is located in the Murrumbidgee River basin and is situated at the junction of Mirrool and Bygoo Creeks. Mirrool Creek drains the hills and floodplains situated to the west of Temora and flows in a westerly direction towards Griffith. The Mirrool catchment area to the Bygoo Creek confluence is approximately 1,496 square kilometres, which is inclusive of the Bygoo and Yarrenjerry Creek sub-catchment areas. Tasks that form part of the Flood Study include:

  • Data collection and review
  • Hydrologic model establishment, calibration and validation
  • Hydraulic model establishment, calibration and validation
  • Simulation of design events
  • Sensitivity runs of key model parameters
  • Reporting of flood behaviour; and
  • Assessment of preliminary flood hydraulic and provisional hazard categories
