Sussex Inlet - Hydrodynamics & Sedimentation

"This report focuses on the Sussex Inlet St. Georges Basin region which lies within the boundaries of the Shoalhaven City Council. In accordance with the proposal initially submitted, this report to the Shoalhaven City Council is concerned with the hydrodynamics and sedimentation of a tidal inlet - Sussex Inlet. The initial aims as outlined in the proposal were to:

  • measure and qualify marine influences such as highly regular tide events arid highly variable wave events,
  • determine the interaction of the above in channel currents and channel morphology,
  • map surface sediments in both the channel and the deltas, and
  • discuss the effects of processes on morphology highlighting process response interactions.

These aims were upheld during the study with the ultimate objective of submitting a report which:

  • provides both a qualitative and quantitative description of tides in the Sussex Inlet Channel and the resulting tide induced sediment transport,
  • give some indication as to the direction of natural change the inlet may take in the future, and
  • to isolate some salient points which require consideration in the future development of the region. "
